A Better Shot Foundation

Helping the Youth of our Community

A Better Shot at Life - Since its founding over 27 years ago, the one and only mission of A Better Shot Golf Foundation has been to offer participants in Lemon Bay's Junior Golf Program financial aid as they pursue their post high school careers.

What We Teach

A Better Shot uses golf as a tool to create opportunity... teaching children a game of rules, challenges, competition, values, and lessons that last a lifetime. We exist to positively impact the lives of young people within our local community using the game of golf. Giving them the opportunity for a better shot at life. A Better Shot is more than a gathering place for friends and families. It is a mechanism to further the future through education, mentorship and scholarship opportunities that help children as they transform into promising young adults.

Summer Program

Each summer A Better Shot hosts an 8 week summer junior golf program on Tuesdays.  Each child is placed in a group based on their ability, and arrives to have an educations session (golf & life skills), 45 minute lesson, play an appropriate number of holes on the golf course, and join everyone for a nutritious buffet lunch.  We work with each child to excel at their level, having fun while learning rules, etiquette, and social skills.

We Love Our Community

This program is part of the DNA of the wonderful Englewood community and is about so much more than just golf. Begun in 1996 by a group of our founding members and golf professionals, our program has provided approximately $80,000 annually in college scholarships. 72 young men and women have been able to further their education with over $550,000 in scholarships granted…

In January of 2022 we reached the milestone of $1,000,000 in our endowment fund. We are continuously looking to build our endowment to not only provide a few partial scholarships for college, but provide one child a 4-year full scholarship to a Florida college/tech school/or university.

If you would like more information or would like to donate to our endowment fund, donations may be made by sending an email to, or by contacting Cindy Claude at 941.697.6445.

If you have been a past participant in our junior program, and would like to apply for a college or tech school scholarship, please click the link below. All scholarship packets must be returned by January 10. The scholarship information for the 2024/25 school year will be available in November.
